Assistant Governor Waqar Rizvi had his beard shaved off during the meeting. There were pledges totaling $8000 made for helping the University of the Pacific Library project.

Tim Viall has been the weekly travel writer for the Stockton Record newspaper for the past seven years. Tim, talked about the national parks and the local travel that can be done by road.

Jonni Redick currently is a teacher at Delta College and University of California, San Diego for the entry level cadets. It helps prevent her knowledge from stagnating. She has also started her private consulting business. She talked about the 5 B’s that we as leaders should be aware of.

Dr. Michael Sasevich is a high tech surgeon who uses the latest technology in preforming transplant surgeries for heart and lungs.

Speaker Past District Governor Robert Deering, Jr. talked about who, how and where human trafficking prevails and the role that education and awareness plays. Target age for human trafficking of 11-12 years old girls. Sacramento Rotarian committee worked on the program and was appreciated by educators, law enforcement officers.

Chuck Meyers talked about the USS Hornet museum in Alameda and the history of the USS Hornet. The USS Hornet is one of the most decorated ships in World War II

Stuart talked about how the wine industry was impacted during Covid and how the wine industry has changed and adapted to the customer demands.

Dan Leavitt, Manager, along with Mike Higgins, Virginia Madueno and Pam Heaney explained the Stockton Diamond Grade Separation; a major and largest rail project in the State.

In 2019, Dr. Alan Carpenter and his wife, Betsy, rode their bicycles across America from Anacortes, Washington, to Bar Harbor, Maine, on the Northern Tier Cycle Route. They covered 4,168 miles during their 58-day journey.

Andrew Mattos Crime Stoppers President. Since being president, they have tried to rebrand Crime Stoppers and changed the logo as part of rebranding. The organization is pretty old and in the March of 2021, it turned 40 years old.

Our speaker this week was San Joaquin County Supervisor Tom Patti who talked about the area Homeless issues and the plan of actions.

Jay Schwabe – Train Museum – Telescope across America. Jay took us back in time when the railroad system was used to deliver a telescope from New York to California.

Our speaker this week was Past Rotary International President Cliff Dochterman who explaining how did Rotary got involved with immunizing. Interesting reading indeed!

Our speaker this week was Tod Ruhstaller from the Haggin Museum. Tod started his job at the museum back in 1984. There have been significant changes since then.

Our speaker this week was Port of Stockton Director Richard Aschieris. He explained the conception and creation of the Stockton Port and how during World War II, the port was nationalized. Many other aspects of the port operation were presented.

Our speaker this week was former Mayor of Stockton, Ann Johnston. She spoke of the many problems that have to be overcome and those tht can develop while running a city such as Stockton.

Our speaker today was Maestro Peter Jaffe. Peter is the Conductor of the Stockton Symphony. At the beginning of the symphony, he always provides a great introduction/education to symphony and music. A lot of times he would dress up in a costume to entertain the audience.

Our speaker today was Dr. Alan Carpenter who had a life threating accident in year 2013, while hiking the Pacific Crest trail. The accident inspired him to restore physical fitness and mental acuity for rest of his life.

Our speaker, Rebecca Glissman, spoke of the changes taking place in the Stockton Homeless Shelter including moving from under the freeway, which is CalTrans property, to a new location.

Today elections for the 2021-2022 Board for the Rotary Club of Stockton was held. See the new board!

Our speaker, President-Elect Kevin Kauffman, is a registered professional engineer in California. He explained the Energy Pacific Groundwater Recharge Project (EGRP) and how it works by drying up the surface and helps the water drain into the layers below.

Brad Howard, Past District Governor of District 5170 (California’s Silicon Valley), and a past member of the Board of Directors of Rotary International for the 2015-17 Rotary years, spoke at the All City Rotary Clubs Of Stockton 47th Annual Thanksgiving Celebration.

Our speaker was Ngozi Elobuike who studied at University College London to do the Masters in Global Health and Development which coincidently happened to be around the same time when the world was hot by global pandemic of COVID-19.

This week’s speaker was none other than Past President Bob Blower. Bob explained how difference between Memorial Day which is to celebrate to those who gave all and the Veteran’s day is to celebrate the ones who gave some. Several club Rotarians spoke of their time in the service.

Our virtual speaker for this meeting was Dr. Thomas Pogue is the Associate director of the Center of Business and Political Research at UOP so spoke of the COVID-19 impact on Nor Cal economy.

Our speaker this week was 2nd Lt, MS Grant Hall, an Rotary International Scholar. With the research background in virology, in Cambridge he had started his research on Noroviruses, he quickly switched gear due to COVID-19. He spoke of three tests used in Cambridge University to test for Corona Virus.

Todays virtual speaker was Dr. Joe Serra who gave us an update on the polio project and how it’s linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Past President Kuy Ky was or speaker this week and spoke about RYLA and what it means. He has been volunteering at RYLA as a counselor since 2012 and gave up being a volunteer as a Marshall at the PGA tour that was at the same weekend every year to start volunteering at RYLA.

Our virtual speaker for this meeting was Christopher Callahan, the 26th president of University of the Pacific. He spoke of the challenges that need to be overcome now during the COVID-19 crisis.

Our speaker today was Paul Stebbins who is the founding Member of “FixUS”. Most of the people in the country want the country to move forward. Fix Us began the journey finding ways to restore the country. Read more about this interesting concept.

Fellow Rotarian and Salvation Army Officer Van Young was our speaker. All the officers of the Salvation Army are ordained ministers. Salvation Army has three components. Work Therapy, Counseling/Education and Spiritual Awareness. There is a 6 Months Residential Program for men to combat addiction. The program is free.

Dr. Leonard Hansen Emergency Food Bank, or speaker this week, shared a picture of a warehouse filled with food items. He said at the Emergency Food Bank, they are trying to expand to store more food. Community has been generous in their donations. USDA and local grocery stores have been also making generous donations.

This week’s speaker was FBI Supervisor Special Agent Christopher McKinney has had an active carrier with the FBI since 2010. Chris said in the central valley 90 percent of cases that they deal with are of criminal enterprises involving drugs and gangs. The FBI is paying a lot of attention to cases dealing with Cyber Crimes.

Sherry Cotta, 5220 District Governor, was our speaker this meeting. Sherry said during this time of uncertainty, It is important and critical to adapt and see what we can do with this COVID19 situation.

Our speaker today, Marieanne Prieto, talked about how the Children’s Museum is a great place for children and students. Here is Assistant Governor Waqar and Maria Rizvi along with their son Ebraheem at the Children’s Museum in August-2019.

Speaker for today was Past District Governor Ellen Hancock who is the Foundation Resource Committee Chair. She gave a rousing “Thank You” to the Rotary Club of Stockton for our generous giving over the years to the Stockton Rotary Endowment and to Rotary International.

Today’s speaker Joelle Gomez was able to update us about The Children’s Home of Stockton in several areas – how they are operating during the Covid 19 pandemic, civil unrest and the Home’s concerns/greatest needs.

Our speaker today was Carol Pandak who is the director of PolioPlus, Rotary’s global effort to eradicate polio, working in partnership with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The final meeting for President Melanie on June 24th had at one time Over 80 Rotarians & guests attended, making it our largest online virtual zoom meeting ever!  Lot’s of love there Melanie!

This meeting featured Carrie Wright, Stockton Economic Director, as our speaker. The Economic Development Department is responsible for overseeing business attraction and retention, parking issues, and unsheltered population issues.

This Zoom meeting’s featured speaker was San Joaquin County Sheriff Pat Withrow who spoke of some of the great changes and advancements within the Agency.

In our virtual meeting today, Liz Hull spoke about how much she is enjoying her time with hubby Past-President Terry and time at her home rather than traveling at every chance.

President Melanie welcomed members and guests to the Virtual Rotary Club of Stockton meeting! There were a total of 43 who attended.

Concerns about the COVID-19 virus and a desire to follow the suggestions of health care professionals has rendered the club DARK until further notice.

President Melanie and Secretary Matt announced that Heroes night (March 27th) has been postponed for at least a couple of months.

Hero’s Night – Annual Fundraiser – Secretary Matthew Grizzle reminded everyone the club will be dark on Wednesday, March 25th so don’t forget to save the date for Heroes night on Friday, March 27th, 2020, 6pm – 11pm,  at the Stockton Golf & Country Club. Attire is semi-formal or uniform. This is the only and major fundraiser this year. IMPORTANT – YOU MUST HAVE A TICKET TO ATTEND!

Lynndee Riley announced that Doris Lease, widow of Pat Lease and mother of Gayle (Lease) Riley who are both former club members passed on Sunday morning.  Doris loved her family, their travels all over the world and remodeling projects.

Stockton Rotary Endowment Chairman Paul Kozlow also presented a check for $11,188 to Past-President Ann Johnston for Read-to-Me Stockton. Read-to-Me Stockton is currently mailing 9,000 books a month to children in Stockton at a cost of $18,000 per month.

Past-president Waqar announced that the Rotary Club of Stockton was awarded a Presidential Citation with Platinum Distinction for the 2018-2019 club year.

Past-President Waqar (center) is a San Joaquin Delta College Honor Society member.  Waqar was sorting boxes from back in the day and came upon a special item. 

SRE Chair Paul Kozlow presented a check for $10,000 from the SRE Raven Fund to Maria Thompkins, Executive Director of the Delta Humane Society. Funds in the Raven Fund are earmarked for the Delta Humane Society as long as it remains a no-kill shelter. The shelter is working so hard with new management and new board members to get animals the medical care they need and placed in forever homes

Lynndee Riley waited 25 years to qualify for “rule of 85” and just when she gets it, the missed meeting fees were eliminated…
