“The Rotary Club of Stockton Begins the 2nd Century of Service to the Stockton Community”


Activities

  • Call to Order and Welcome!  President Colleen Stewart called the meeting to order.

    Welcome to our members and their guests to a year of Service Above Self. “Imagine” is our mantra this year, and with your help we can be as successful this year as we have been in the past. Rotary Club of Stockton was formed in 1914 just the 92nd club worldwide. With over 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide.   Rotary International was formed by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905. Stockton Rotary celebrated our 108 Anniversary just in February. We have a rich history in Stockton.


    Meetings are brought to you live at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.

There are many that are the core of our organization that go unnoticed but not unappreciated. Thanks to everyone that assists us in all we do. And we can’t forget Sharon for always bringing a book. Finally, the speaker committee for getting interesting speakers lined up for us to hear. Club Announcements

Sargent At Arms Announcement:  Ken Steele announced that we have new banners and he pointed out the new exchange flags added and some historic ones too.  He also told us that if you have a badge number higher than 200 that you will be reassigned a new number as he is consolidating the badge boxes into 2 instead of the 4 we currently have.

RYLA We have some Edison RYLA attendees that Sharon Tweedy has invited and they all gave us their great impressions of their time at RYLA camp and what a significance and wonderful experience it was.

President Elect Walt Wager has returned from PETS would be hosting his 1st meeting as President Elect for this meeting next week.  He told us that he has already been planning the Annual big fundraiser.  Save the date for the RotaryFall Follies Fundraiser for September 30, 2023.  And to celebrate his upcoming Presidency,  he donated $500 to SRE and $500 to RI.

DACDB- Everyone should check their information in DacDB as things change and emails, phone numbers, addresses, etc. Please check that the information on yourself is accurate and update it.

Blain Bibb recognition – Foundation Director, Leonard Hansen presented Blain Bibb a Paul Harris +6. The most generous Paul Harris +6 recipient made a $2000 pledge and sponsorship to our club finances.  He is really an inspiration to us as we needed the funds and he came through when we needed him.  Thanks so much Blain!!!  You’re a Rotary Hero!!!

Club Service Chair TJ Save the Date April, 20th for the 60/70’s theme Social Fund Raiser  at “The Well”

Hero’s Lunch – May 3rd and we are seeking sponsors $500 for this event and it will be a dinner event and we will have no lunch meeting that day. The sheriff’s and the Stockton FD are sponsored, and we need the CHP’s and Stockton PD

Golf Tournament – Past President Chad who said that it is filling up fast and if you want to sponsor a hole, please contact him

Program

Speaker: Emily Ballus, Stockton Shelter for the Homeless

Introduced by: Past President Melanie Vieux

Emily Ballus, Stockton Shelter for the Homeless, Board of Directors and Treasurer told us about the current shelter and stats.  They are currently hosting 357 people nightly.  They are a temporary shelter.  They think there are approximately 941 sheltered homeless in Stockton and the Shelter provides 37% of the shelter for those without a habitat.  There are unsheltered homeless at about 1355 individuals in Stockton.  They are building a “Navigation Center” scheduled to be completed in June 2023 and how it is getting done so quickly is that they are building this with 22 shipping containers.  It will be 2 stories and have 180 beds and will house another 13% of unsheltered homeless and this is a community-wide coordinated event.  They will have a storage facility for the guests to store their belongings and they can bring their pets.
