“The Rotary Club of Stockton Begins the 2nd Century of Service to the Stockton Community”


Activities

  • Call to Order and Welcome!  President Colleen Stewart called the meeting to order.

    Welcome to our members and their guests to a year of Service Above Self. “Imagine” is our mantra this year, and with your help we can be as successful this year as we have been in the past. Rotary Club of Stockton was formed in 1914 just the 92nd club worldwide. With over 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide.   Rotary International was formed by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905. Stockton Rotary celebrated our 108 Anniversary just in February. We have a rich history in Stockton.


    Meetings are brought to you live at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.

  • Special Thanks to –  A round of applause for all the Worker Bees of Rotary Stockton. We appreciate you and all your time and effort. There are many that are the core of our organization that go unnoticed but not unappreciated. Thanks to everyone that assists us in all we do. I need to thank the set-up team, Sergeant at arms, Ken Steele, Monie Ky.  Matt, our Secretary for all his behind the scene work as well as Louie Lemos, Treasurer. And we can’t forget Sharon for always bringing a book. Finally, the speaker committee for getting interesting speakers lined up for us to hear. District Conference Save the Date – June 24th and its only one day conference to be held at Ironstone Winery in Murphys

 

 

Club Announcements

Foundation report: Leonard Hansen announced our goal of $30k has been exceed and we are $34k currently with a new goal of $40k with 3 months to go still.

International: Marcela Gracewski announced that 5 people are heading El Salvador.  The first time a Rotary club has done a project or visited there.  They are going to be there next week and all leave this weekend and they hope to be able to facetime us during our meeting next week.

President Elect Walt Wager has returned from PETS would be hosting his 1st meeting as President Elect for this meeting next week.  He told us that he has already been planning the Annual big fundraiser.  Save the date for the RotaryFall Follies Fundraiser for September 30, 2023.  And to celebrate his upcoming Presidency,  he donated $500 to SRE and $500 to RI.

DACDB- Everyone should check their information in DacDB as things change and emails, phone numbers, addresses, etc. Please check that the information on yourself is accurate and update it.

SRE Check Presentations: SRE President Paul Kozlow for Read to me Stockton and Ann Johnston received it for them.  For St Mary’s Interfaith Dining Hall and Petra Linden accepted it.  Sam Hatch from Tuleburg Press was there to accept on their behalf for Hazelton Elementary Library.

Club Service Chair TJ Save the Date April, 20th for the 60/70’s theme Social Fund Raiser  at “The Well”

Hero’s Lunch – May 3rd and we are seeking sponsors $500 for this event and it will be a dinner event and we will have no lunch meeting that day. The sheriff’s and the Stockton FD are sponsored, and we need the CHP’s and Stockton PD

Golf Tournament – Past President Chad who said that it is filling up fast and if you want to sponsor a hole, please contact him

Emergency Food Bank: Canned tuna is being collected for March


Program

Speaker: Wes Rhea, Visit Stockton

Wes Rhea, Visit Stockton and he was very informative. He said that it was originally founded in 1979 and are funded by tourism business improvement district bonds and have an annual budget of 2 million. Some recaps he shared were in 2022 we had 666,014 room nights in hotels in our city. 1800 hotel rooms are occupied every night. Stats from 2021 showed 241.2 million dollars spent from people traveling to Stockton. 18.6 million visits and they use geo-location data to track visitors. They track visitors from more than 30 miles or more away. The come from mostly within California. They are hosting “Feast of the Fox” and collaboration with San Joaquin Delta College Culinary School to offer a 5 course meal to 175 people. It sells out fast. This event is scheduled for May 5. The are hosting the National Collegiate Water Polo tournaments at UOP on May 12 thru 14. The 2nd Annual “Flavor Fest” which was a huge success last year and won the international award for best new festival. This I scheduled for May 19,20,21st and is at a cost of $5.00 on Friday and $10 on Saturday and Sunday.
