  • Call to Order and Welcome!  President Colleen Stewart called the meeting to order.

    Welcome to our members and their guests to a year of Service Above Self. “Imagine” is our mantra this year, and with your help we can be as successful this year as we have been in the past. Rotary Club of Stockton was formed in 1914 just the 92nd club worldwide. With over 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide.   Rotary International was formed by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905. Stockton Rotary celebrated our 108 Anniversary just in February. We have a rich history in Stockton.


    Meetings are brought to you live at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.

  • Trivia: Black History Month. February is the “Moon when the trees pop” in Lakota legend. Today is Ash Wednesday. Today is our 1st President, George Washington’s 291st birthday born 2/22/1732. It is National Supermarket Employee Day, National California Day, National Cook a sweet potato day, and National Margarita Day today is 43 anniversary of The Miracle on Ice when the underdog US Hockey Team wone the Gold medal at the Winter Olympics against the Soviet Union 4 to 3 in what is known as one of the biggest upsets in sports history, and Tomorrow the 23rd is Rotary International’s 118th birthday.

District Conference Save the Date – June 24th and its only one day conference to be held at Ironstone Winery in Murphys

Plea from District 5220 Disaster Relief – Past President Lodi Rotary Joe Cotta is asking for donations for to assist after the Turkey Earthquake and he is seeking donations for Shelter Box and our Disaster fund. Time is of the essence.

 

Club Announcements

SRE Scholarships Kathy Hart has enough volunteers to read the scholarship applicants.

Rotary Read-In: PP Ann Johnston encouraged us to participate on Thursday February 23 at 10 and this is the 32nd annual Rotary Read-In, please sign up soon to participate in this rewarding event

Drive by Crabfeed – Has been cancelled due to lack of interest anyone who has paid will get a refund.

International Projects: Marcella Gracewski announced that we have a few members of our club going to El Salvador to bring wheelchairs.

Club Service Chair TJ Save the Date April, 20th for the 60/70’s theme Social Fund Raiser  at “The Well”

Hero’s Lunch – May 3rd and we are seeking sponsors for this event and it will be a dinner event and we will have no lunch meeting that day.

Golf Tournament – Past President Chad Sublet announced a date for the golf tournament of May 12th with more information to come.

Flag Exchange – Rick Fooy, traveled to New Zealand for 6 weeks which is the place of his birth and he did a flag exchange with a club there and he donated $100 for this. Thanks Rick!!

Past President Chad Sublet donated $25 for touting membership to the Stockton Country Club

Program

Speaker: Susan Obert, Haggin Museum

Introduced by: Kathy Hart

Susan gave us a great presentation about the museum that was opened in 1931. They honor the tomato queen, Tillie Lewis, who opened up the 1st California cannery on her 34th birthday and was the top tomato producer in the State. The Stockton Art Pottery Movement was significant dure the 1890-1900’s with all the art and it is on display. Ralph Yardley was with The Stockton Record and illustrated for them from 1920 to 1952 and they have a collection of his works. Sci-Fi to Superhero was begun by Matt Falls, son of the late John Falls who owned the men’s department store locally, created this side show collectibles. It is the 92nd annual Robert T McKee student art exhibit promoting 900 pieces of local school children’s art. They feature Tony Levin, famous musician, and photographer.
