“The Rotary Club of Stockton Begins the 2nd Century of Service to the Stockton Community”


Activities

  • Call to Order and Welcome!  President Colleen Stewart called the meeting to order.

    Welcome to our members and their guests to a year of Service Above Self. “Imagine” is our mantra this year, and with your help we can be as successful this year as we have been in the past. Rotary Club of Stockton was formed in 1914 just the 92nd club worldwide. With over 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide.   Rotary International was formed by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905. Stockton Rotary celebrated our 108 Anniversary just in February. We have a rich history in Stockton.


    Meetings are brought to you live at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.

It is International Childhood cancer Day, Lantern Festival Day, Love reset Day, National Black Girl Magic Day, Gumdrop Day, I want Butterscotch Day, Remember the Maine, Single Awareness Day, Total Defense Day, World Hippo Day and Susan B Anthony Day

There are many that are the core of our organization that go unnoticed but not unappreciated. Thanks to everyone that assists us in all we do. I need to thank the set-up team, Sergeant at arms, Ken Steele, Monie Ky.  Matt, our Secretary for all his behind the scene work as well as Louie Lemos, Treasurer. District Conference Save the Date – June 24th and its only one day conference to be held at Ironstone Winery in Murphys

 

Club Announcements

Member Induction: Michael Lara was inducted as our youngest member at 23. His father, Miguel Lara is his sponsor and Michael is a graduate of Merced college and wants to assist us with youth. Welcome Michael!!

SRE Scholarships Kathy Hart has announcement and needs some readers for the scholarships from March 13-20th and would like 6-8 volunteers to review and select the next recipients.

Rotary Read-In: PP Ann Johnston encouraged us to participate on Thursday February 23 at 10 and this is the 32nd annual Rotary Read-In, please sign up soon to participate in this rewarding event

Drive by Crabfeed – March 11th and this is a fundraiser for us and cost is $75 and you will be able to drive by from 4-6 and pick up your crab package from the office in the Fountains in Brookside

International Projects: Marcella Gracewski announced that we have a few members of our club going to El Salvador to bring wheelchairs.

Club Service Chair TJ Save the Date April, 20th for the 60/70’s theme Social Fund Raiser  at “The Well”

Hero’s Lunch – May 3rd and we are seeking sponsors for this event.

Golf Tournament – Past President Chad Sublet announced a date for the golf tournament of May 12th with more information to come.

Program

Speaker:  Shannon Hurles, Executive Director of the Builders’ Exchange.

Introduced by: Past president Melanie Vieux

Shannon and her husband are partners in an Engineering Company and became acquainted with the Builders Exchange as a result of her involvement she became the Executive Director. The Builders Exchange offers membership to an array of businesses that are involved in building, construction, real estate, architectural, etc… This association offers classes from safety to certifications.

Recognitions

PE Walt Wager had a recent vacation and said he and his wife had recently returned from visiting Jerry Smith in Arizona and has donated $50 to club finances

Monie Ky set up the entire room to celebrate Valentine’s day with chocolates and balloons. Thanks to Monie for her thoughtfulness. As a tribute, Past President Kuy Ky made a $250 bellringer donation.

Vocation Chair Beto Beas had an alarm go off and donated $25 for the interruption.

Paul Harris presentations: Kathy Hart Paul Harris +8 and she got a standing ovation and our Foundation Chair Leonard awarded her the new pin with 3 pink stones

Birthday and Anniversary Recognitions

Dave Midura had a birthday last Thursday February 9th and he is donating $100 to club expenses
Amir Khan had a birthday on Sunday February 12th and he is donating $100 to club expenses
Ann Vandemark had a Valentine birthday yesterday and she is making a double heart stopper, 2 – $500 donations, one to RI and one to SRE for a total of $1000 and she says she budgets for this every year. Thanks so much Ann and Happy Birthday!!!
