Presidential Project for Literacy: President Colleen sent an email to all members seeking advisors/volunteers for my President project that she is just beginning. It is involving tutoring from high school students for elementary students, and we are partnering with the Library & Literacy Foundation and San Joaquin A+ and she needs help because this is not my area of expertise-so educators and interested others, please help me and we are on the ground level currently but have funds available immediately for use. Thanks so a few of you that are volunteering for this, and she could use more for my committee. Thanks to those who have already reached out to help.
New Member Inductions: Membership Chair, Liz Hull
- Faye Giovenetti sponsored by Sharon Tweedy
- Jared Foster sponsored by Gerardo Garcia and he began his Rotarian membership by donating a Bellringer of $250 to celebrate his engagement
Program
Election Integrity by Olivia Hale, San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters
Introduction of the speaker by: past president Michael Blower
She was very informative about San Joaquin County Election process. She explained that all registered voters get a mail ballot and for anyone that mails in their ballot there is a process. The process is that it must be postmarked by election day and they verify the signatures for these. The system used for tabulating votes is called the Hart System. The Secretary of State does a forensic audit of our election.
She said that there are 400,000 registered votes in San Joaquin County. They set up vote centers and leading up to the final election day of November 8th, they had 8 centers county wide for 29 days before. For the last 5 days leading up to election they increased up to 40 vote centers.
She spoke on drop boxes and how they have to be secured and protected. She spoke on how everyone is trained in the vote centers and polling places and that she feels that we have not much to worry about the integrity of our races in our county.
