“The Rotary Club of Stockton Begins the 2nd Century of Service to the Stockton Community”

Activities

  • Call to Order and Welcome! President Colleen Stewart called the meeting to order.

Welcome to our members and their guests to a year of Service Above Self. “Imagine” is our mantra this year, and with your help we can be as successful this year as we have been in the past. Rotary Club of Stockton was formed in 1914 just the 92nd club worldwide. With over 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide.   Rotary International was formed by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905. Stockton Rotary celebrated our 108 Anniversary just in February. We have a rich history in Stockton.

Meetings are brought to you live at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.

  • Music Selection: One of President Colleen’s favorite songs is Peggy Lee who recorded “Why don’t you do right?” with Benny Goodman today in 1942 and this was her debut. She thinks it’s a spunky song and speaks about the 20s. the 1920s. The 2nd song is The Who’s “Magic Bus”, is from 1968. The 3rd group of songs are from 1981 and is Stevie Nicks first solo album called Bella Donna and they are, Stop Dragging my Heart Around with Tom Petty, and Leather and Lace with Don Henley from the Eagles.
  • Pledge of Allegiance & Four Way Test – led by Lex Elias, grandson of President Colleen.
  • Thought of the day: Past President Ann Johnston remined us of the history of Rotary beginning in 1905 with Paul Harris. He moved to a new city and invited 2 business associates to lunch and it began the organization. In 1987 Women were allowed to be members and this year Jennifer Jones is the 1st female president of Rotary International.
  • Meeting Sponsor: Meeting sponsors are available for $100 and your name and company can be highlighted throughout our weekly meetings
  • Special Thanks to –  A round of applause for all the Worker Bees of Rotary Stockton.  There are many that are the core of our organization that go unnoticed but not unappreciated. Thanks to everyone that assists us in all we do.
  • Concern Report – None
  • Weekly door prize: We have a couple Rotary Bags that say People of Action donated this week. Can we have some more of these types of door prizes donated? I appreciate the efforts and the in-kind donations and it’s always nice to win. Ron Allison won this week.

Rotary News

The 2022/2023 year has started off strong and we have already held our first Board meeting on Monday. We have some news to share. We had a vacancy of Sergeant at Arms. Ken Steele stepped up and offered to be head of a team of Sergeants and in doing so is relinquishing his role as Director of International/Grants. In his place Sally Motta was voted in as the new Director of International/Grants. Thanks to Ken
and Sally for their new roles and for volunteering for our club.

Sad news to report. Pacific Stockton Rotary is closing down as a club effective by the end of this year 2022 after opening in 1974 and we hope to attract any of their members that are looking to relocate to a new club. They will be visiting all the other 4 Stockton clubs and each will picking they club they feel fits.

Rotary Direct: We have 26 participants including myself that have our donations electronically our donation taken out automatically and it is easy and adds up fast. Please consider donating this way. See Leonard Hansen, Secretary Matt or myself for more details.

Leonard Hansen, our Foundation Chair will be asking for money for Rotary International. We have a goal this year to donate $30k. We need help to make this goal. Leonard said we raised $645 toward RI in last weeks meeting on our goal to $30k. thanks to all

Help Needed

  • Volunteers needed for my Oyate Gathering. We are needing Silent Auction items, Live Auction items and ticket sells.
  • President Colleen wants to do another wine pull so we need wine bottles donated for this really fun fundraiser and a chance to win a very expensive and great bottle of wine.
  • Speaking of donations that we want to collect, we are assisting The Emergency Food Bank with needed donations each month and this month they are collecting boxed mashed potatoes for the holiday season. To learn what they need this month, please see there webpage at Calendar (stocktonfoodbank.org).  We truly thank you kindhearted and generous Rotarians.
  • We ask of us all to give from our time, talent, and treasures. If you are unable to give treasure, then time or talent is needed. We need help with set up each week, greeters, notetakers, and shut down. We need someone to lead COG. Does anyone have a desire and ability to give back by organizing and teaching our COG? Can we get a commitment for a month to sign up for these duties that are our basic club functions and lunches? Please see me, Matt to sign up.
