    Thought for the Day – Gerardo Garcia- He recited a quote from Marianne Williamson, which said that our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is light and not darkness that is our greatest fear. As we are liberated from our fears, take a chance and do more.

  • Special Thanks Today to – Matthew Grizzle for orchestrating these meetings and Corie Stewart who is now our official greeter, Dudley Drake for his work on speaker recruitment, Leena Mittal for continuing to taking notes (thank you Leena), and Eric Duran for the ultimate publication of the Wheel!
  • Guests of Rotarians – Ngozi Elobuike– she will be inducted as a new member; Deborah Cordova (Marcela Gracewski’s guest) from El Salvador, she received a scholarship from Rotary to go to a better school in El Salvador; Amir Awan (Potential new member); Wendy Frush (first lady, wife of President Gary Frush) and Paul Kozlow’s guest Leonard Hansen from the Emergency Food Bank thanked the club for our donation through SRE to further their mission.
  • Rotary News:  Rotary Direct – Latest sign up: President-Elect Colleen Stewart! Total members registered in Rotary Direct for Foundation giving are 16! Please consider signing up; it’s easy to do! Club Announcements

  • Foundation Fund Raiser – Crab Feed & Foundation Evening March 20th. Rotary foundation dinner.  Get your tickets now. The dinner will be available for pickup from 4-6 pm and the program itself will be on Zoom. Ngozi Elobuike well be giving a presentation about her endeavors in the UK. There will also be a Ukulele band from Canada. The meeting will be wrapped up by 8:30pm.
  • Rotary Read-In February 22nd – Sharon Tweedy: Sharon gave a presentation on the Rotary Read-In program. Due to COVID, there would not be an opportunity to read to the students at school but there is an option to make your video and share it with the schools. The detailed information on the program was sent in an email by Sharon Tweedy.  Additional information can be seen HERE.

When (if) we (ever) resume regular meetings..

  • Use That Credit Card at The Meeting – You may now pay for lunch, raffle tickets (minimum Credit Card Purchase of $5.00) and other purchase at the Club meetings with a credit Card.
  • Potential Members – To encourage Club members to bring a potential member to the Wednesday meetings the Rotary Club of Stockton will pay for the 1st meal of a potential member brought by a Club member. For the proper procedure when proposing a new member, read this document.

Dan Wright

Kevin Lincoln is the new mayor of Stockton and has been serving as mayor for two months now. Dan Wright got a chance to assist Kevin last summer at the height of shutdown when Kevin ran the program, “Bread of Life”, to help the local needy families.

Mayor Kevin Lincoln:
Mayor Lincoln said that he was blessed to be able to join the hardworking and dedicated team. His main strategy would be to have open communication and make the best possible decisions. He said their council is diverse and that diversity should not divide us but unite us. Kevin has been a husband for 19 years. His Son is 15 years old and daughter is an 8th grader. He served in the US Marine Corps. He worked as a minister at a local church and managed local community finances and served community through projects at church. He talked about the latest and greatest issues that Stockton city is facing and how he would help the city to do better.

Past-President Ann Johnston, “Reflections of a Past Mayor”

Ann Johnston is President and CEO of The Balloonery, Inc., a retail business in Stockton since 1981, and has been actively involved in the community as both an elected official and a community volunteer.

She served as Mayor of the City of Stockton from 2009 to 2013 and as a City Council Member from 1995 to 2002. From 1979 to 1992 Ann represented the North Stockton area as a Lodi Unified School District Board Member.

Mrs. Johnston holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences and a General Secondary teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Ann also served as a Peace Corps volunteer and taught English as a Second Language in Iran.

As Mayor in 2011, Ann partnered with the Rotary Club of Stockton to begin Read to Me, Stockton!, an early literacy project, which provides free books to preschool children with the goal of preparing them for success in school when they enter kindergarten. Working with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Read to Me, Stockton! has funded the mailing of over 400,000 children’s books to children from birth to age five in the city of Stockton in the past nine years. Currently over 6000 free books a cost of $2.00 per book are sent each month to registered children throughout Stockton.

  • $100 – Assistant governor Waqar Rizvi donated $100 (50/50 to SRE and foundation) for his re-appointment as planning commissioner for District 2 council for yet another term.
  • $1,000 (Double Heart Stopper!) – Past-President Kuy Ky donated $1000. Kuy and Mony Ky’s son Dean Ky was accepted to UOP Dental school for the class of 2024. Their other son, Ben Ky is finishing high school in summer. He got invitation letter for undergrad Dental program at UOP as well as from Princeton and Stanford. $500 for Dean and $500 for Ben to SRE.
