You don’t try to build a wall. You don’t set out to build a wall.  You don’t say I’m going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built. You say, I’m going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid.  And you do that every single day.  And soon you will have a wall.’

Guest Speaker

Speaker: Past District Governor Ellen Hancock
Introduced By: Linda Guinn

Foundation Resource Committee Chair, Ellen Hancock, gave a rousing “Thank You” to the Rotary Club of Stockton for our generous giving over the years to SRE and to Rotary International.  Praising our club’s individual commitment, our community focus and global participation reminds us that our 9 target areas of SRE connect well with the Rotary International 7 areas of focus, with the newly added Environmental focus.  Stockton Rotary’s generosity, cash/recognitions or major donor dollars, enables our club to support global projects recently in Nigeria/Pakistan for water, a hospital in the Philippines, Pakistan for water and toilets and National Immunization Day. Ellen also reviewed our giving from the past several years and encourages us to set a goal for this Rotary year.

Rotary Direct online giving provides a quick and easy way to donate to the annual fund.  Go to www.rotary.org, click on GIVE, select your choice of giving (once, monthly, yearly), describe how much and you will receive a tax deductible receipt from RI.  If you need help, contact President Gary, Foundation Chair Linda Guinn or Ellen at mehancock@rocketmail.com or call 952.529.5094.  These folks can also help with your Rotary ID number.  If you subscribe to the Rotarian Magazine, the ID number is also above your name on the address label.

Recognitions

  • $63 – Luie Duarte – SRE – July birthday.
  • $50 – Van Young – RI – 40th Wedding Anniversary.

Next Meeting: July 29, 2020
County Supervisor Tom Patti

Tom Patti was overwhelmingly elected to the County Board of Supervisors, District 3, in 2016. Supervisor Patti recognizes the challenges facing San Joaquin County, and the need for transformative leadership to change the trajectory of our community. To achieve this, he will focus on education, economic development, public safety — and tackling the connected issues of mental health, homelessness and caring for veterans.

As a second-generation local business owner, Tom recognizes that small businesses are the job creators of our community – the engine that drives our society. He is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business Owners, Stockton Builder’s Exchange, and the San Joaquin County Farm Bureau. Tom’s vision is smart economic growth with an eye on the future of self-sustaining, energy-efficient communities.

Patti graduated from local schools and attended Delta College – and currently sits on the Board of the Delta College Foundation, which helps expand education access for local students.

With a life-time passion for giving back, Prior to being elected, Tom was active serving on the Child Abuse Prevention Council, March of Dimes and the Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee. Supervisor Patti also serves on the Board of Directors for Stockton Crime Stoppers. In 2015 Tom Patti had the honor of being selected by the African American Chamber as their “Man about Town” in recognition of his many local contributions.

Tom is a 5-time State and Golden Gloves boxing champion. He briefly considered a professional boxing career in 1986 and spent time in New York training with the legendary Cus D’Amato. He returned to California in 2001 and along with his father built Delta Cranes into the preeminent crane company in the San Joaquin Valley.

As a single father of 7-year old Presley, Tom Patti is dedicated to improving the safety and opportunity in our community.
