Speaker: Dan Cort
Subject: “Building Residential Loft Apartments at City Hall”
Introduced By: Past-President Chad Sublet

Past-President Chad Sublet introduced our speaker, Dan Cort, CEO of the Cort Companies who has made a significant impact on downtown Stockton originally by restoring old homes and now continues to renovate historic buildings in the downtown area subscribing to a philosophy that he describes as “contra-development”.  Rather than tearing down historic buildings, his company works to re-purpose the function and grandeur of existing infrastructure.

Dan took us on a walk down memory lane of several successful public/private partnerships including the Sears Building, the old Bank of America Building, Stockton Collegiate International Secondary private school, the Kress Building, S.F. Floral Co. and J.C. Penney Co., Team Charter.

Dan announced that if all proceeds as planned, the old City Hall will not be torn down. Cort Companies has won exclusive rights to negotiate to turn City Hall into “Lofts at the Hall” with 35 market rate residential units on the top floor.  Someone will be able to live in the mayor’s office! It will include 80 additional units in an additional building amid beautiful grounds and underground parking.
