Rotary is…

  • an organization of business, non profit and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
  • the world’s first and largest service club. Comprised of some 1.2 million men and women who belong to over 30,000 clubs in 163 countries.
  • a weekly gathering of Rotarians that enjoy fellowship and interesting programs dealing with topics of local and global importance.
  • a group of Rotarians that plan and carry out a remarkable variety of service projects and programs that improve people’s lives.

Membership in Rotary is by invitation. The prospective member’s name is submitted to the board of Directors for initial approval by a current member in good standing.

A proposed candidate’s character and reputation shall be above reproach. The reputation of the proposed’s firm in the general community, with competitors and with those with whom the firm deals shall be the very best. The proposed shall be committed to community service. The proposed shall be able to meet promptly the financial obligations of membership. The proposed should be in a senior position in his/her firm so as to have control over his/her schedule allowing regular attendance at weekly meetings and other Rotary functions. The Rotary Club of Stockton meets on Wednesdays from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.

The Board, upon satisfactory report by the club’s membership committee, gives approval for the proposal to move forward.

The proposed candidate’s name and classification is published to the club. During the next seven days, members have the opportunity to submit written objections regarding the proposal.

Objections are reviewed by the Board and if the Board overrules the objection or if no objections are received, the proposed candidate and sponsoring member attend an indoctrination meeting where the candidate is educated about Rotary and the obligations of being a Rotarian.

Following the indoctrination meeting and upon payment of the initial dues, the candidate will be introduced to the club as a new Rotarian.
