Craig Cheslog-California Department of Education.  Craig Cheslog currently serves as the Principal Advisor to California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson at the California Department of Education.

Craig’s responsibilities in this role include providing strategic policy advice to Superintendent Torlakson, directing the Superintendent’s special projects and initiatives; serving as the Superintendent’s liaison to other high-level individuals and organizations; managing the Superintendent’s Initiatives Office, Executive Office Support Unit, Awards Unit, and Superintendent’s Correspondence Unit; and representing the Superintendent at speeches, meetings, and other events.  For more information please click here

RYLA Counselors– A big thank you to Melanie Vieux, Kuy Ky, Dave Tygett, John Reusche, Brian Dillon, Chad Sublet, Blain Bibb, and TJ Hull who were counselors.  Thanks to Nick Curtin and Graham Tweedy for taxi service.  Chad Sublet presents a video yearbook that the kids made this weekend.  Click here to view the video.

Charity Allocation Committee – President Renna thanked Pete Gormsen, chair, Mas Kamigaki, Dave Tygett, Nick Curtin, Jim Anthony, Tom McHugh and Reid Johnson for selecting this year’s recipients from the many fine organizations which submitted applications.  Accepting gifts on behalf of their organizations included Sara Garfield for the TLC School for Homeless Children, Dale Benner for New Directions and Kerri Tapia for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Rotary Foundation International annual Pledge Drive – Ken Steele. Any donations to the Annual Programs Fund made by February 29, 2012 will be matched by the club and all go towards a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Playground Equipment – Don Barry is looking for Rotarians to help with the playground project on Saturday March 3 at 9am.  We will be cleaning and painting a large playground that we will be shipping to Romania later this month.  We have Interacters to help but could really use some adults to help supervise. Read to Me, Stockton! 95206 Kick Off – Come join the members of the RTMS group, invited guests, teachers and children at Taylor School on Friday March 2 at 10AM.  The school is at 1101 Lever Boulevard. This is big.  We are moving into our second zip code 6 months ahead of forecast. Please let Graham Tweedy know if you plan to attend.

Heckman Webcast – On March 8th at 11:30, First 5 will be sponsoring a webcast and luncheon of Dr. James Heckman, along with San Joaquin County Office of Education. Our desire is to share his message with the business and civic leaders in this community.  He will address the fiscal responsibility of investing in early childhood development to gain a more productive and valuable workforce that pays dividends to America for generations to come. Library Literacy Trivia Bee – Kerry Krueger.  The annual Library Literacy Trivia Bee will be held on March 9th at the Civic Auditorium.  Our Club participants, who specialize in trivia are Gary Putnam, Jeff Zola, and Paul Kozlow.  This is always a fun event.  Lets come and support our team! District Assembly – To get us all started, for our up coming Rotary Year with DGE Liz Hosmer, the next District Assembly will be on March 31 at the University of California, Merced.  8:30 to 1.  Need to register before 8:30.  Featured speaker and three breakout sessions.  Please please click here to view a flyer.  Contact Susan Drake to register.  $25 before March 15.

Annual 5k,10k Memorial Day Run – Kerry Krueger.  The annual 5k and 10k Memorial day run is coming and sponsorships are needed please see Kristen Dyke. Ski Trip – Michael Blower. Join the Rotary Club of Stockton for a day of downhill fun and fellowship! Thursday March 15, 6AM to 6:30PM. $80 per person. Fees cover bus ride, lift ticket, continental breakfast, lunch and beverages. Skis, boots and poles are available for rent for $30. There are 42 seats available on a first come basis. District 5220 Conference – April 20 & 21.  Two full days of quality speakers, meals, entertainment, awards, and fun in MODESTO! Register for the full conference package or mix and match meals and sessions to fit your time and budget. Each venue will require a special pass which you will find in your registration packet. Stockton Rotary Centennial – the date is Feb 1, 2014. We wish to make this a celebratory series of events to share a century of service with the greater Stockton community. The committee has chosen five areas of focus. They are Projects, Events, Book, History and Publicity. If you wish to help in one or more of these areas please contact Susan Drake at secretary@stocktonrotary.org We are in need of historical items for our club to include in publications and media announcements. We are asking past presidents and all our members to put on their thinking caps, search your offices and homes for historical tidbits. Please contact Frank Whitney at fwhitney@midcalbbb.org to help him in this task.

Grocery Card Fundraiser – Our new card has the Rotary logo and name on them. Grocery rebate cards are available at the meetings. The Club will receive a rebate of 3% of purchases at SaveMart, Smart Foods, Food Max, and Lucky’s. The card may also be used when purchasing pharmaceuticals. To date we have received over $1691. If you would like additional cards for family, friends see Susan.
