Next Week’s Program – December 21, 2011.

A Holiday CelebrationSanta Claus – alias St. Nicholas and Kris Kringle. Santa lives at the North Pole and oversees a toy workshop run by busy elves. Each December 24th, Christmas Eve, Santa flies around the world delivering his toys in a sled pulled by nine reindeer: Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Dancer, Dasher, Donner, Prancer, Vixen and a recent addition to help the aging original eight, shiny nosed Rudolph.

Next week Santa pays his annual pre flight visit to our club. Come join your fellow Rotarians and visiting children for a fun event.

Hope Haven Partners with Rotary

Lonny reviewed the places he went and number of wheelchair distributions that he has been involved in the last few years. As a Rotarian he is involved with a number of Rotary Clubs partnering with Hope Haven raising money from their clubs and using matching rants. Future Vision should help in getting clubs together to do an even better job.

Our own Gary Gillis has participated. We help send Physical Therapy graduate students from UOP each year to countries in need of help. This year they were in Antigua, Guatemala.

Lonny has been to Romania, Palestine Guatemala and Mexico. Next year he plans a trip to Nicauragua.

Lonny added humor by relating stories of local events. He enouraged us to not only financially give support to the program but consider physically participating. A trip to Mexico for a distribution would cost between 1200 to 1500 dollars.

The chairs are manufactured from a design by engineering students at the University of Ohio. Lonny also refurbishes discarded wheel chairs. Donations of wheelchairs are always needed.

Travel abroad demands flexiblilty. Their motto is “semper gumbi” which means, ever flexible.

Lonny Davis was introduced by Gary Gillis.
