Admiral Joseph “Pepe” Castillo-Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Rear Admiral Castillo assumed his duties as Commander, Eleventh Coast Guard District in July 2009, becoming the first Hispanic to command a Coast Guard District. As such, he oversees all Coast Guard operations in the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. His area of responsibility includes 3.3 million square miles of coastal and offshore waters extending 1000 nautical miles off California s coast, and south to the Colombian/Ecuadorian border in South America. Danny Sink – Director, the 2012 U.S. Open Championship

US Open Golf Tournament

Danny was born in North Carolina. Currently he lives in San Francisco with his wife and daughter. Danny works for United States Golf Association, USGA. He told us about the USGA and their work in interpreting the rules of Golf, protecting the integrity of the sport and how the USGA is the biggest supporter of the First Tee program.

The USGA is a nonprofit organization and one of their other causes is helping the various golf courses in managing their courses with less water and pesticides.

Danny shared stories about the various US opens he has been involved in and he told us about the work that goes into coordinating such an event.

The US Open for 2012 will be held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco and is expected to draw 220,000 people and generate 144 million in economic stimulus to the area.

Danny concluded his presentation by taking questions from the group.

Club Announcements

Membership Mixer
– Please bring a guest and join us for a Rotary Club of Stockton Membership Mixer! Wednesday, December 7th, at Casa Flores Marina, 3201 W. Ben Holt Dr. #155, 6 pm 8 pm. Hors-d oeuvres and cocktails. No-host bar for members. Contact Melanie Vieux, 944-9110 office or 925-518-3426 cell.

Change of Venue – December 7th, next week, we meet at Brookside Country Club.

Holiday Party – Tom Perry. The party will be at Laura Pinkerton s home on Thursday, December 22 at 6 pm. Music, wine and hors d’oeurves. Sign up sheets will be on the tables.

Food Drive – President Renna. Please bring non-perishable food items to our next two meetings as we will have a food drive to help Hazelton School in its food drive.

Childrens Christmas Party – this will be on December 21st. If you plan to bring your children please let Chad know.

Stockton Rotary Centennial – the date is Feb 1, 2014. We wish to make this a celebratory series of events to share a century of service with the greater Stockton community. The committee has chosen five areas of focus. They are Projects, Events, Book, History and Publicity. If you wish to help in one or more of these areas please contact Susan Drake at We are in need of historical items for our club to include in publications and media announcements. We are asking past presidents and all our members to put on their thinking caps, search your offices and homes for historical tidbits. Please contact Frank Whitney at to help him in this task.

Grocery Card Fundraiser Our new card has the Rotary logo and name on them. Grocery rebate cards are available at the meetings. The Club will receive a rebate of 3% of purchases at SaveMart, Smart Foods, Food Max, and Lucky s. The card may also be used when purchasing pharmaceuticals. To date we have received over $1531. If you would like additional cards for family, friends see Susan.
