Darrell Pedersen -100 Years of Scouting. A 29 year professional with the Boy Scouts of America. He has had assignments in Phoenix, Eureka, Santa Rosa, and has been here in Stockton, since 1998. Currently is the District Director for the Greater Yosemite Council. He oversees Scouting in Stockton and vicinities including Scoutreach which covers Hispanic outreach in south Stockton, Thornton and Harney Lane Migrant camps. Darrell also oversees the council s grant writing and reporting for 10 different programs with 4 United Ways. Darrell has recently managed as many as 8 full time professionals and 5 part-time Scoutreach and support professionals in the council.

Darrell received degrees from Glendale College, Northern Az University and Ariz State University. He plans on retiring within two years and will build on his ranch land in Seligman Az. (pop. 850) where he will settle in as a part-time high school teacher, woodworker and gentleman rancher and cowboy.

Darrell s talk will be on 100 years of the Boy Scouts of America, from it s beginning in England to the present, including an update on current local Scouting.

Raffle – Last week Bob Merdinger won the raffle. Bob won $2,540.00 to be allocated as follows:
60% goes to Stockton Rotary charities.
30% goes to SRE or Rotary International Foundation in the name of the winner.
10% goes to the winner.
The raffle continues with 34 more state coins, 4 Canadian coins and 7 German coins. The new grand winner coin is the New Jersey State Coin.

Club Announcements

Country Club Request – the Country Club reminds us that the ellipse in front of the entrance is a no parking zone.

Matching PHF funds – Susan Drake explained that the Club will match all PHF donations made between today and the end of March. Susan asked us to review the information that we have received and evaluate our contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Contact Susan at secretary@stocktonrotary.org

Rotary Read-In – Gary Frush is seeking volunteers for the Rotary Read-In on February 16, 2011. This year is the 20th anniversary of the event. We have filled all 13 elementary schools assigned to us with readers. However, more are needed if you wish to volunteer for other schools. Stockton Thunder Hockey – Please join District 5220 Rotarians for the 2nd annual Family of Rotary Day with the Stockton Thunder Sunday March 20 at 4 pm at the Stockton Arena. Everyone is invited: Rotarians, Families, Rotaractors, Interacters and Friends of Rotarians. Last year we had over 300 attendees and had a wonderful time. Ticket prices: vary from $7 to $16 ($16 includes hat). Chad Sublet reminded us all to sign up real soon so we can sit with our club. Leadership Seminar – The Mid – Year Leadership Seminar on February 12, 2011, from 8am to 1:30pm.

Stockton Rotary Centennial – the date is Feb 1, 2014. We wish to make this a celebratory series of events to share a century of service with the greater Stockton community. The committee has chosen five areas of focus. They are Projects, Events, Book, History and Publicity. If you wish to help in one or more of these areas please contact Susan Drake at secretary@stocktonrotary.org. We are in need of historical items for our club to include in publications and media announcements. We are asking past presidents and all our members to put on their thinking caps, search your offices and homes for historical tidbits. Grocery Card Fundraiser Our new card has the Rotary logo and name on them. Grocery rebate cards are available at the meetings. The Club will receive a rebate of 3% of purchases at SaveMart, Smart Foods, Food Max, and Lucky s. The card may also be used when purchasing pharmaceuticals. To date we have received over $923. if you would like additional cards for family, friends see Susan.
