Bay Bridge Seismic Safety Projects

Jordona graduated in 2008 from California Polytechnic State University and she currently works for the Bay Bridge Seismic Retrofit project.

Jordona explained that many of the materials used to created the new bridge were made in various parts of the world, as many as eight countries, including here in Stockton where large cement pieces were made to install in the bridge.

Jordona explained that they have chosen to close the bridge over labor day weekends because that particular weekend is the least travelled of all during the year. The bridge is being built to last for a 150 year design life.

The new bridge will have shoulders for vehicles to move away from traffic. There will be a pedestrian and bicycle lane.

The projected completion is planned for 2013. The new bridge will have a suspension bridge made of one large cable made of 137 bundles of steel each bundle with 127 individual wires.

To date the entire project has been accomlished with a few minor injuries.
