Allan R. Frumkin, PDG – Zone 25 PolioPlus Challenge Coordinator and Special Advisor to RI Director Ken Boyd

“A PolioPlus Presentation”

Allan Frumkin reminded us that we are in the last year of the Rotary Challenge. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation pledged a grant of $350 million to PolioPlus with a challenge to RI to raise $200 million. To date we have raised over 150 million.

When Rotary began its’ commitment to eradicate Polio about twenty years ago there were approximately 500,000 new cases each year. Today it is less than 1000 and limited to 4 countries. These last four countries present challenges of geography and culture.

Allan recounted two personal stories involving his participation in National Immunization Days. In one story he related how he, as a Jew, entered a mosque to immunize Muslim children. This occurred about 3 months after 911. It turned out to be a wonderful experience as persons of different faiths and cultures joined together for the sake of their children.

He concluded his talk by reading the poem A Prayer for our Children by Ina J. Hughs. If you wish to read it simply click here. It will be worth your while.

Wayne Hose introduced Allan Frumkin.
