Next Week’s Program – November 23, 2010. Tuesday!!

Rotary All City Thanksgiving Luncheon. This annual event provides us an opportunity to meet Rotary friends from our fellow clubs in Stockton, have a great meal and enjoy an outstanding program and speaker. It will be held this year at Elkhorn Country Club.

Concern report – Lloyd DeBock. Lloyd led us in a moment of silence for Pat Patmon s father who passed away recently.
A memorial service will be held for Charlie MacNear on Saturday at 10:30 at the Congregational Church located in the old Mallards building.

Paul Harris Presentation – Kevin Kauffman presented a first and a second Paul Harris to Eric Duran who happened to gain his awards by winning raffles.

New Member – Chad Sublet sponsored Jason Carlson who works for Central valley Community bank in the finance and lending arena.

Quiet Rotarian Award – District Governor Don Murphy recognized Charlie MacNear with the award. Don reviewed the various activities that Charlie had been involved in, both in and out of Rotary, including disaster relief for the Red Cross. The award was accepted by Don Barry, a past winner of the award, who will present it to his family.

“District Governor Presentation”

Don discussed how impressed he was with our club’s efforts in accomplishing various projects within the community such as the Rotary House, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Wheel Chair Projects, the Backpack Project for local youth, and the distribution of dictionaries to local third graders in Stockton.

Donna Murphy, then told us about the District Conference in Sacramento on April 29, 30 and May 1, 2011.

Don continued his presentation about following the goals of Rotary president Ray Klinginsmith by Building Communities – Bridging Countries.

Don stressed the importance to Get Bigger, Better and Bolder in all our clubs efforts to help our local community as well as the world.

Rotary is making good progress toward our US$200 Million Challenge for polio eradication. As of October 31, Rotarians have raised about $152 million.

Club Announcements

The Wheel editor suggests that persons email their announcements to prior to publication of the weekly edition. This will make sure that we present your information the way you wish and not our sometimes mangled interpretation of your verbal presentation.

Annual All-City Thanksgiving Luncheon – The Luncheon is Tuesday November 23 at noon at Elkhorn Country Club. Tickets are $25. Please contact Susan Drake at for tickets and more information.

Annual Children’s Party – Chad Sublet. This will be held on December 15. The purpose of the luncheon is to provide needy children in our community with a lunch, a good time and a chance to get to know us. If you plan to bring children please make sure to sign them up to make sure they receive a gift.

Holiday Party – Chad Sublet. Our annual party will be held at Laura Pinkerton’s home on December 16. $35 per person. Make sure to put this fun event on your calendars. Sign up sheets are on the tables at our meeting.

Change of Venue – Our December 1 meeting will be held at the Hilton Hotel.

Employment Page – Graham Tweedy. We have created a new page on the Stockton Rotary website to help Rotarian employers who are hiring and Rotarians who are seeking employment find each other. Stockton Rotary Centennial – the date is Feb 1, 2014. We wish to make this a celebratory series of events to share a century of service with the greater Stockton community. The committee has chosen five areas of focus. They are Projects, Events, Book, History and Publicity. If you wish to help in one or more of these areas please contact Susan Drake at We are in need of historical items for our club to include in publications and media announcements. We are asking past presidents and all our members to put on their thinking caps, search your offices and homes for historical tidbits. Please contact Frank Whitney at to help him in this task.

Grocery Card Fundraiser Our new card has the Rotary logo and name on them. Grocery rebate cards are available at the meetings. The Club will receive a rebate of 3% of purchases at SaveMart, Smart Foods, Food Max, and Lucky s. The card may also be used when purchasing pharmaceuticals. To date we have received over $923. if you would like additional cards for family, friends see Susan.
