Don Murphy – A Message from our District Governor. District Governor Don Murphy is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Salida and has been involved in district operations almost since joining Rotary. Starting as District Insurance Chairman for 5 years and adding in Webmaster for 6 years, Don and his wife Donna served as co-chairmen of the 2007 District Conference. They are both Rotarians and that s an active Rotary household where Donna served as editor of the Rotary Times for 6 years, is Past President of the Rotary Club of Salida, and is past AG for Area 7. SRE Presentation – Luis Duarte presented Bill Brown, of the Gospel Rescue Mission, a check for $3500 which will provide 2000 meals for this Holiday season.

Much Thanks – President Nick thanked Bob Blower for filling in for him last week. He also thanked all those who job shadowed last week for the Edison Interact students and for those that provided transportation.

“A Paul Harris Celebration”

Our club has donated $1,016,000 to the annual programs or Rotary International with 161 Rotarian donors, 583 non-Rotarian donors and is responsible for 594 Paul Harris Fellows. Eleven members were presented with multiple Paul Harris pins. Eight members, who are Major Donors giving $10,000 or more, were announced.

The second part of the program was introduced by President Nick. The Team Leader was Thagarajan Ravichandran. Team members – Karthikeyan Balaganesan, Kanimozhi Manoharan, Alexander Perira, Sridevi Balaganesan and Priyanka Rayakottah, presented an excellent video which highlighted their individual interests and accomplishments.

Their message was Spreading Smiles Across Miles and demonstrated their commitment to humanitarian and peaceful causes. The Rotary District 3230 projects are many and include providing clean drinking water, construction for communities, providing education and health services for orphans, and various international goodwill projects.

Club Announcements

Rotary International Foundation Dinner – Our annual District 5220 Dinner will be held at Hutchins Street Community Center in Lodi on Saturday November 13, 2010. The dinner is sold out. Over 30 persons from our club are attending. Contact Kevin Kauffman for more information at or Susan Drake at

Stockton Rotary Centennial – the date is Feb 1, 2014. We wish to make this a celebratory series of events to share a century of service with the greater Stockton community. The committee has chosen five areas of focus. They are Projects, Events, Book, History and Publicity. If you wish to help in one or more of these areas please contact Susan Drake at We are in need of historical items for our club to include in publications and media announcements. We are asking past presidents and all our members to put on their thinking caps, search your offices and homes for historical tidbits. Please contact Frank Whitney at to help him in this task.

Grocery Card Fundraiser Our new card has the Rotary logo and name on them. Grocery rebate cards are available at the meetings. The Club will receive a rebate of 3% of purchases at SaveMart, Smart Foods, Food Max, and Lucky s. The card may also be used when purchasing pharmaceuticals. To date we have received over $923. if you would like additional cards for family, friends see Susan.
