Lynne Roberts – Women’s Basketball Coach, University of the Pacific

“Women’s Collegiate Basketball”

Lynne Roberts related to us that she became a coach because she was very commpetitive as a person and wished to bring to athletes things she learned about life while playing sports that would help them beyond the playing field.

Sports teaches life skills such as:

  • learn how to get along with all types of persons.
  • learn how to be competitive.
  • learn how to handle embarassment and mistakes.
  • learn how to accept recognition of others, especially when you might feel you deserve it.
  • learn how to fight through being sidelined.

Sports can help train you to be accountable. In present times there is the feeling that right and wrong comes into play only if you get caught. She related a personal story that occurred during her sports playing time that had a permanent effect on her behavior.

Lynne encouraged us to come to sports events at UOP. Student atheletes need our support – they are our future leaders. Sporting activities bring people together and is a positive influence in our community.

Lynne Roberts was introduced by Kerry Krueger.
