“A Malawi Experience”

The Malawi trip planning began over a year ago in Past Pres. Gary Putnam s term when R.I. awarded a grant to provide medical supplies to hospitals and clinics in Malawi. District 5220, The Rotary Club of Stockton and The Rotary Club of Limbe, Malawi, Africa partnered to accomplish this project.

Eight Rotarians and friends from District 5220 made the trip to Malawi as Rotary ambassadors. Included in the eight were Dr Joe Serra, Dr Cathy Peterson, Gary Gillis and daughter and Frank Moore from the Rotary Club of Stockton.

The first over night flight brought them to Addis Abba, Ethopia and the Chesire Home for disabled children. The second overnight flight delivered the group to Malawi and the several hospitals and clinics who were to benefit from the container of medical supplies.

The trip brought the group many memorable experiences in addition to the appreciation of those who received the medical supplies. Kuche Kuche Beer became a new favorite drink, toasting the president of Malawi s health became a new favorite activity and they learned that the Malawi people were wonderful, friendly people especially the members of the Limbe Rotary Club.

Our speakers were introduced by Past President Gary Putnam.
