  • Thought for the Day – Ernie Jordon provided an inspirational prayer reflecting on the words of the Star Spangled Banner. Ernie challenged everyone, regardless of ideological differences, to ask God for wisdom in finding solutions to our problems.
  • Raffle – Rigo Cervantes won $2.
  • COG Duties – John Maroulis – Team leader, Fred Weibel, Greeter, Floyd Crame and Chad Sublet – microphones, Diane Stauffer and Rigo Cervantes attendance, John Atwood raffle.

Margee EnsignTransistions: Dean to President and Stockton to Nigeria. Dr. Margee M. Ensign is a distinguished scholar and administrator, serving for the past 11 years as the Dean of the School of International Studies and Associate Provost for International Initiatives for the University of the Pacific.

At Pacific she started the Inter-American program, the Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship, the Gerber lecture series and an international law program with McGeorge School of Law. She has also been the Principal Investigator for the California International Studies Project, a state-wide project that trains over 6,000 K-12 teachers throughout California in world history, geography and international affairs. Frank Thornton-Smith Scholarship Ryan Valenzuela is the 2010 recipient of the $1,000 Stockton Rotary Endowment Frank Thornton-Smith scholarship. Ryan is a Bear Creek High School student, a self-taught musician and will study music starting this fall at the University of Pacific. Ryan played an original piece titled “Strawberry Lemonade” and was accompanied by this father, August.

Vocational Talk John Chandar shared the highlights of a Nursing Home Administrator. Nursing homes care for yesterday s youth with two primary types of patients. The first group is short-term patients who stay 14 days or less for rehabilitation services. The second group is long-term patients who stay for more than 14 days for permanent types of disabilities and care.

District Awards Susan Drake presented the Club with two district awards for literacy projects. The first award – our club was one of six clubs in our district to be honored by the Zone. The second was one of two from the district recognized by the North America Area. Thanks for everyone s help and working together as a team.

Joe Kapp – retired player and coach

“Be Prepared”

With great humor, Joe shared the source of his success, both on and off the football field, Everything done in life is done as part of a team. Success comes from setting goals, planning to achieve those goals and making sacrifices to achieve the goals.

Joe Kapp grew up in gated communities he affectionatingly called the projects . Joe was also a migratory football player because of the number of locations he played during his career. Joe shared personal memories of some historic plays he orchestrated during his career. He has worked for many charitable causes over the years including his own Foundation.

Joe Kapp was introduced by Paul Jacobsen.

Stockton Rotary Centennial – the date is Feb 1, 2014. We wish to make this a celebratory series of events to share a century of service with the greater Stockton community. The committee has chosen five areas of focus. They are Projects, Events, Book, History and Publicity. We are in need of historical items for our club to include in publications and media announcements. We are asking past presidents and all our members to put on their thinking caps, search your offices and homes for historical tidbits. Grocery Card Fundraiser Grocery rebate cards are available at the meetings. The Club will receive a rebate of 3% of purchases at SaveMart, Smart Foods, Food Max, and Lucky s. The card may also be used when purchasing pharmaceuticals. To date we have received over $772. if you would like additional cards for family, friends see Susan.
