Jay is a nuclear physicist trained at the Universities of Texas and Wisconsin. During his three-decade career at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, he built accelerators for research in nuclear physics and for materials science in support of the fusion program. The Common Sense Approach to Caregiving and Caring for the Caregiver

Ms Ashby emphsized the need to get information and help as soon as someone we love receives the diagnosis. Sheryl reminded us that to communicate effectively we have to touch the person and make firm eye contact.

She likened dealing with a patient with dementia as holding a glass of water up is easy at first but will get more and more difficult over time regardless of the weight.

Her group provides a practical guide to caregiving and sponsers a support group at Sommerfield Place.

Sheryl Ashby was introduced by Bill Gass.
