Speaker…
Ann Johnston – Mayor, Stockton, CA
“State of The City”
Ann Johnston has been Mayor for seven months. Not the best time to begin a term as mayor in the depths of a world recession.
In spite of all of the negatives, Stockton is moving forward. The city does have a balanced budget and avoided laying off 55 police officers but did lay off 250 of its 1,600 employees. The city is pursuing its fair share of the federal stimulus dollars and has received an award to hire 20 police officers.
The Mayor encouraged us to buy local, supporting local business and keeping tax dollars here.
A citizen s advisory board has been appointed to reorganize the Building Permit Department to make it more user friendly. Another committee is to pursue attracting small business to Stockton.
Some good things are happening in Stockton. -The new marina will open around the first of September. -The Delta Water Supply Project is ready to go out to bid for a $220 million dollar project. -Moody has taken Stockton off of its watch list. -The Vista Volunteer program is going well. -The Mayor is pomoting an Adopt-a-School Program to pair local schools with business.
Ann Johnston was introduced by Colleen Foster.
