Sharing Can Make a Difference - Chuck Haupt, Executive Director, MedShare West.

MedShare bridges the gap between surplus and need to improve healthcare and the environment through the efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment to those most in need.

MedShare is new to Northern California and the community has already responded to the great medical need in economically developing countries, and our own communities, by donating several hundreds pallets of surplus healthcare supplies. More than 70 exam tables, 25 hospital beds, portable x-ray units, incubators, and other biomedical equipment have also been donated. On September 13th, MedShare West held its first volunteer sorting session with 20 Bay Area community volunteers in its new 32,000 square foot facility. These volunteers are just the first of thousands who will sort and pack this humanitarian aid. Located in San Leandro, this new facility is centrally located to more than 80 hospitals and is in close proximity to the Port of Oakland, from where we will be shipping containers. New Member Proposals – John Maroulis, New York Life by Roland Ghazal; Chad Sublet, Verve Network by Dennis Smallie; Dale Fritchen, San Joaquin County by Dennis Cochran.

Concern Report – Randy Dockery memorial at 11:30 on Saturday May 9 at the Stockton Golf and Country Club. Randy joined our club in 1974 and was president for the year 1985-86.

Charity Awards – This year to date we have contributed $39,000 to international causes, $40,000 to charities through our Stockton Rotary Endowment and today we awarded $25,612 to local charities. The following were the recipients at our May 6 meeting.

Haven of Peace, represented by Brenda Castellanos. Milk for the children at each meal for a 4 month period. A check for $1000.

Second Harvest Food Bank, represented by Mike Mallory, CEO, $1000 for food distributions.

Emergency Food Bank, represented by Tim Viall – $1612 and $3000 for food distributions, fresh fruits and vegetables purchased from local suppliers. Teaching and informational supplies totaling $4612.

American Cancer Society, represented by Molly Bollinini, for patient services such as transportation to appointments, wigs for persons under treatment, support groups, information, and speaking devices and prosthetics for laryngectomy patients- $5000.

St. Mary s Interfaith Dining Hall – Ed Figeroa – Nutrition Services to the homeless, $5000 and the Transitional Learning Center for counseling and teaching supplies for homeless children who are being schooled at TLC $4000.

Hospice of San Joaquin – Barbara Tagnoli and Barbara Pombo. Equipment for the maintenance of Hospice facilities -$2000.

Reach Out and Read – Susan Spracher – $2500.

United Way Science Camp – $250.

Banking in This Economy

Our presenter spoke about local and national bank health.

“Mr. Trezza spoke and used many graphs and charts
To explain why some bankers now push shopping carts

He said that if your bank is based in Atlanta
You should stock up on Mylanta

If your bank’s NPA’s are homes and lands
You may be eating out of tuna cans

He warned that larger banks may seem a breeze
But will bury you in service fees

So if your national branch is in the tank
Consider choosing a community bank!”
