Concern Report – President Gary read a letter from Patricia Cornell, a worker in Mexico who recived a hearing aid from us, telling us how much it has helped her life.

Paul Harris Fellowship – Ken Misellis was presented his eighth fellowship award.

Special Recognition – President Gary recognized three COG members Robert Shapiro, Joseph Dietrich and Robert Nelson for their filling in for missing COG members on short notice.

Travis Air Force Base

The Operation Support Squadrons accomplish departures at the rate of one every 90 seconds involved in humanitarian and military missions.

In Iraq they reduced the need for road convoys by delivering the armor plate to protect the Humvees using C130 and C17 s. They transported the wounded and changed the survival rate from 75% to 90%. They help in moving the wounded from the battlefield to a US hospital in three days.

Following Katrina, they made seventeen sorties and conducted the largest evacuation ever.

In Kashmir, Pakistan, following the recent earthquake, they won the hearts of Pakistani’s by delivering fifteen million pounds of relief supplies in an area with no roads or airports.

Club Announcements

Rotary District 5220 Business Directory – The district has initiated a directory wherein Rotarians may list their businesses. If you wish to enter your business into the directory here are the directions.

Go to www.myrotary5220.com and chose enter. Chose enter at the next screen and complete the appropriate questions. When entering keywords you may include your name or business name along with any words someone might use to find your products or services. Enter the password, havefun. You will return to a thank you page. When you go to the Vocational Directory use the Login, ruleone and the password, havefun.

This is an early version of the directory. Improvements will be made. Should you have problems or you wish to make suggestions contact your editor and I will help.

Boat Trip – Dave Tygett – Sign up if you are going and if you have a boat that wishes to participate. Contact Dave or sign up online using our calendar on the website.

Rail Car Ride – Reed Robbins won Ric Masten’s donation of a ride for $200.

German Students Visit – We have a wonderful opportunity to host about 35 German student this summer for three weeks. They will be visiting starting the last week of July. Host families are needed. Details of the program may be found on the District website.

Music Scholarships – Nick Curtin reported that there were five applicants. Two winners, $1000 to Kimberly Sicatta, voice of McNear and $1000 to Shan Conner of Lincoln who plays the tuba. Shan performed for us.

District Conference in Monterey – President Gary reported that the conference was fun, informative, emotional, excpetionally well run with great entertainment and food. As a Rotarian you are encourged to sign up for next years event – info below. It is a unique Rotary experience that you will thoroughly enjoy. Rotarians know how to put on an event.

Concerts in the Park – Lubo Velick announced that the concerts will continue next year and encouraged us to participate.

Reading Matching Simplified Grant – Susan Drake presented a check to President Gary from our district for $1000 for the Reach Out and Read program.

An opportunity for you! – You will have the opportunity to advertise your business or profession in The Wheel again this Rotary year starting July 1. These ads take the format of a business card approximately 2 1/2″ by 1″. Check out the current ads in any recent version of The Wheel. Cost will be $300 for a Rotary year a very reasonable cost to get your name in front of an elite group every week and contribute to Rotary at the same time. Space will be limited and is available on a first come first served basis. Please contact me for details. Graham

Orphan’s Mission – Our club’s Jon Stephens will be telling us about a mission to orphans in Mozambique in the Thought for the Day on June 10. The needs of children in that country are incredible. We will be invited to donate new clothes, toothbrushes, soap or cash. Please click here to learn more about the story.

Blind Center Celebration – The Community Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with a Cocktail Reception Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Center, 130 West Flora Street. At this special time the Center will honor Mimi Eberhardt and Bill Reynolds for their service to the Center. Visit their website for complete information.

District Conference 2010 – It is not too early to plan for next year’s conference which will be hosted by our DGE Susan Drake and held at entrancing South Lake Tahoe. They have created some incentives to help us make a decision. We suggest you don’t miss out. Coming soon a video starring Kayaker Susan and Chef Dudley. Full details and the ability to sign up are on the district website.

Wine Tasting – John Dierking – the Stockton Sunrise Rotary club is having a Wine Tasting with SJ Historical Society on June 5, 2009 from 5-8pm at Mickey Grove. The cost is $40 per person in advance and $50 at the door. Great wine and food. Susan Drake has tickets.

Dress Code – Just a reminder that the Stockton Golf and Country Club does not allow the wearing of blue jeans.
