Next Week’s Program, February 11, 2009 -

Chocolate with the President a special Valentine’s Day event – Gary Putnam. Gary will present “A Profile of Abraham Lincoln.” This first person presentation is derived from the speeches, letters, writings and anecdotes of our 16th President. It is especially appropriate this year, the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth. Gary will appear in costume and seek to provide renewed life to the words of one recognized as the greatest American President.
Gary has been a student of Lincoln’s life for the past 50 years having great appreciation for him as a literary figure, a great humanitarian, a significant 19th century theologian and our foremost President. Gary presented Lincoln in costume for the first time in 1976 during our nation’s bicentennial.

Mel Corren-Retired Business Owner, Stockton CA
Vitality of Downtown
Mel took us on a picturesque tour of the downtown areas of many major cities like Cincinnati, Denver, St. Louis, and Lodi to show our club how these cities had not only revitalized the city core but had preserved the historical buildings as well.
Mr. Corren then made numerous suggestions specific to Stockton. Two ideas were to convert two older manufacturing buildings into art and music centers while blocking off traffic and opening an existing alley to make a pedestrian friendly plaza or square in front of the old Fox theater.
Mel Corren was introduced by Al Davidson.
